From experiences to stories of postmigration

From experiences to stories of postmigration

On the sidelines of the international conference "From experiences to stories of postmigration", supported by UCLouvain from September 17 to 19, 2025, three French-speaking authors will lead thematic writing workshops.

Nour Cadour is a French poet, painter and author of Syrian origin, practicing as a nuclear doctor in the Paris region. Committed to poetry, in 2021 she won the Jacques Raphaël-Leygues prize from the Society of French Poets for her collection Larmes de lune. She also obtained a special mention from the jury of the international "Poetry in Freedom" competition in 2014, in the "Students of France" category. She is currently a member of the jury and press officer of this association. She also contributes to several literary and artistic journals.

Asya Djoulaït is a novelist, graduated in comparative literature in Lebanon, and professor of literature in the Paris region. Winner of the Young Writer's Prize and the First Novel Festival, in 2020 she published her first work, Noire Précieuse, with Gallimard, which questions the possible hybridities of identity, by featuring "nouchi", an Ivorian slang that has gradually become a true vehicular language, particularly in the diaspora. In 2025, she published her second novel, Ibn, with Grasset, which she describes as "a tribute to religion and believers", through the awakening to faith of a young teenager, which occurred after the death of his mother.

Diadié Dembélé was born in Kodié, western Mali. A graduate of the Master's degree in literary creation from the University of Paris VIII, he works as an interpreter within an association helping migrants. His first novel, The Grandmothers' Duel, for which he received the Vocation Prize, was published in 2022 by JC Lattès. He addresses the tribulations of a turbulent young teenager, forced to leave Bamako to join his two grandmothers in his family's village of origin. His second novel, Two Great Men and a Half, published in 2024, was crowned with the CEQF prize "The Francophonie in debate". He relates "backwards" this same theme of exile, this time from the countryside to the city, then from Bamako to Paris.

Nour Cadour will host his workshop on September 18, from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m., at the "La Page d’après" bookstore. Asya Djoulaït will speak the same day, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., at the Louvain-la-Neuve public library. Finally, it is with great pleasure that the Placet Center will welcome Diadié Dembélé on Friday September 19, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
